Washington DC will be the pilot city this year for showcasing mobile TV with the technical model proposed by the Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC).
The OMVC model allows for simulcasting a mobile TV signal with the regular digital broadcast signals from local stations using the same frequencies.
Seven stations have already signed up for the consumer demonstration including the local Fox, PBS and NBC affiliates. The pilot is set to launch some time this summer.
Nationwide, some 70 stations have now committed to running OMVC test transmissions.
