ANGA CABLE 2009 – COLOGNE. Cisco promises to show a “range of medianet technologies that will transform consumer video experiences for the connected life at home”.
These technologies will enable Internet Protocol (IP) networks to become ‘medianets’, delivering advanced communications, collaboration and entertainment experiences through video- and rich-media-optimised networks.
For Cisco, “the IPTV set-top box is the consumer’s gateway to an integrated media experience”.
The company is bringing along a range of its open and flexible IPTV set-top boxes, including the CIS2000, CIS5000, CIS5220 and CIS6000. They support a variety of middleware platforms, giving service providers a high degree of control, creativity and differentiation in solution development.
Medianets also catch users for targeted advertising.
Cisco’s content delivery system is central to Cisco’s targeted advertising architecture, offering advertisers the ability to dynamically target advertising across TV, internet and mobile domains and for both linear and nonlinear video services. It also allows users to pause and resume content across a range of devices.
Cisco points out that is continuing to support cable operators with existing hybrid fibre-coaxial access networks.
Scalable network solutions remain a key requirement for service providers.
Cisco will be bringing a range of transport, hub, node and EGC amplifier products to the show, including the new Cisco GS7000 optical hub and the Cisco A90098 fibre deep node. Also showcasing will be the Prisma II XD and Lumin dense platform optical systems.
Cisco will demonstrate ultra-high-speed data transmission and video over DOCSIS (VDOC).
A modular cable modem termination system (M-CMTS) architecture featuring the Cisco uBR10012 Series M-CMTS, universal edge QAMs and cable modems, will make up the vendor’s media-aware IP Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) portfolio.
These will employ DOCSIS 3.0 and DOCSIS over Passive Optical Network (DPON) technologies, enabling operators to maximise their infrastructure capacity and thereby dramatically increase access speeds and offer next-generation broadband services that can completely transform the end-user experience.
