Discovery Channels has suspended the launch of Quest, which was set to make its debut this month as a free-to-air channel in the UK on Freeview.
Last October, Ofcom issued a licence (see Broadband TV News passim), but the plans for the new FTA channel have now been shelved.
“Regrettably we have made the decision to postpone the launch of Quest,” according to a statement by the broadcaster.
Discovery had already scaled back the number of hours the new channel was set to broadcast, cutting back its hours to 10am to midnight instead of a full 24 hour schedule.
Plans for Quest have been put on hold.
“Due to a number of commercial factors we have had to make this difficult decision,” according to a statement.
“We did not make this decision lightly and we are working towards launching Quest later in the year.”
