Canal+ made gains in its terrestrial transmissions during the first quarter, becoming one of the few channels to increase audiences as the French TV landscape realigns in the lead up to digital switchover.
The Chaînes Canal+ package increased its share by 0.2 percentage points to reach 4.5% on the back of the popularity of Canal+ Family and Canal+ Sport.
Digital subscribers now account for 83% of the subscriber base, a 12 point gain since March 2008, ahead of Canal’s self-imposed ASO of December 2010.
In March the number of video-on-demand programmes launch since Canal+ launched its catch-up service in the spring of 2008 reached ten million. One in two subscribers now use the service on a regular basis.
The total installed base, including the French overseas territories and Africa, remains largely unchanged on 5.2 million.
Revenues totalled €445 million from €457m in the first three months of 2008.
