Russian boost for Microsoft

May 13, 2009 11.49 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Microsoft Mediaroom DVRRussia’s VimpelCom Communications has launched a new IPTV service in Moscow powered by Microsoft Mediaroom.

Known as Beeline TV, it offers subscribers 125 channels, of which four are in HD; the Nash football channel; features such as DVR recording; and 3,000 on-demand programmes and movies.

Beeline TV is the first Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV service to launch in Russia, and indeed the CIS, and follows a successful commercial trial of the Microsoft platform by VimpelCom under the TV Corbina brand.

An agreement between VimpelCom and Microsoft was first reached exactly 12 months ago.
