The number of French homes taking an IPTV subscription reached 6.2 million at the end of 2008, according to the telecoms regulator ARCEP. This represented a growth of 36.8% as compared with the the previous year.
The figure indicates that 37% of all DSL subscribers in the country took television as part of their broadband connection at the end of 2008. The total number of DSL homes was 16.8 million, up 13.5%.
France Telecom was the country’s largest IPTV provider with its Orange TV brand with 2.166 million digital TV subscribers, including 316,000 to the satellite platform, the remainder subscribing via DSL.
