The Hungarian incumbent telco Magyar Telekom ended Q1 with a combined total of 505,499 subscribers for its TV services.
While 83% (420,825) were for those offered by its cable operation T-Kábel, the number was little changed on the same quarter in 2008 (+0.1%).
Its IPTV service T-Home TV, on the other hand, has started to pick up after a slow start following its launch in late 2006. As of Q1 2009, it had 37,500 subscribers, as opposed to 12,883 in Q1 2008.
The star performer is nevertheless the DTH service T-Home Sat, which was launched in Q4 2008 and had already secured 47,144 customers by the end of this March.
Magyar Telekom’s IPTV operations in Macedonia and Montenegro meanwhile had 4,120 and 19,309 subscribers respectively at the end of Q1 this year.
The telco’s revenues in Q1 2009 were, at HUF159.4 billion (€541.2 million), 2% lower than in the corresponding quarter in 2008, while EBITDA was 6.5% lower at HUF64.6 billion.
Net debt, on the other hand, decreased from HUF238.7 billion to HUF217.8 billion.
