TeliaSonera’s TV business has so far proved resilient against the economic downturn. Its IPTV business has strengthened in the quarter to March 31, 2009, though DSL revenues have come under pressure from mobile broadband.
The total number of TV subscriptions rose by 100,000 from the first quarter 2008 to 688,000, of which 509,000 were to the Swedish-Finnish operator’s IPTV services, up 102,000.
IPTV subscriptions in Sweden climbed to 333,000 from 324,000 at the end of the fourth quarter. There were 10,000 IPTV subscriptions in Norway and 2,000 in Denmark.
Despite the effects of the economic slowdown in the Baltic region Lithuania grew IPTV subscriptions to 81,000 from 67,000 in the fourth quarter, and 25,000 one year ago. In Estonia numbers grew to 83,000 from 75,000.
There were also 175,000 cable TV subscribers in Finland and 4,000 in Estonia.
