UPC and Ziggo, the two largest Dutch cable operators, will have to sit down with potential third-party resellers under supervision of the regulator OPTA. Following the talks, the operators will have to come up with a wholesale price proposal.
Following a market analysis, OPTA ruled that the two cablers have to allow third-parties to resell their analogie basic tiers. Two companies – the independent Youca and telecom provider Tele2 – have already expressed interest in doing so.
Last week, both Ziggo and UPC appealed against the market analysis (see Broadband TV News passim), but this procedure will for the moment have no impact on the implementation of the OPTA Open Cable ruling.
