The German sports channel DSF is “surprised” by its forthcoming removal by Switzerland’s largest cable operator Cablecom on July 1 to make room for the Swiss sports channel Schweizer Sportfernsehens (SSF).
Oliver Reichert, CEO of DSF, told the German trade publication Digital Fernsehen he finds Cabelcom’s decision difficult to understand: “We have enjoyed a good partnership relationship with Cablecom. All the more surprising that we learned of the termination by the Cablecom on July 1 as a result of the obligation on the part of Bakom to carry SSF on the cable network. ”
Earlier this year the Bakom communications authority ruled that SSF will enjoy ‘must carry’ status from July 1, and should be carried by all cable operators, including Cabelcom, as part of their basic analogue packages.
Reichert hopes he will be able to join the basic analogue package again but is also looking at alternative ways of distribution in the country.
