Irdeto is to manage Viasat Broadcasting’s internet-based on demand service. The security specialist will use technology from Entriq, which became a part of its portfolio earlier this year, and already powers platforms such ProSiebenSat.1’s Maxdome.
Viasat OnDemand will be available across multiple territories, though at present is restricted to Sweden, Norway and Denmark. A version for Viasat’s satellite subscribers was recently launched using progressive download technology from NDS.
Irdeto’s content management solution will enable Viasat to manage a dynamic online platform, increasing revenues in an area that is widely seen as having increasing public interest.
“Viasat’s desire to make its content available to customers in the widest variety of consumer devices is absolutely in line with the business needs that Irdeto supports,” stated Doug Lowther, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Irdeto. “The opportunity to work with such a well-regarded broadcaster to provide this service across a major geographic footprint demonstrates the strength of content management solution and the revenue generating potential of online content services.”
Further functionality and an increased breadth of content is expected to be introduced over the next few months.
