CABLE CONGRESS 2009 – BERLIN. Although over 70% of European cable operators still have no mobile product, others are setting the pace in adding wireless to their offers.
According to Annika Sten-Parson, the head of sales and product marketing at Com Hem, the Swedish operator’s recently introduced mobile product has helped reduced churn.
Its deal with a mobile company that had no fixed line assets has also proved to be beneficial for both parties.
Portugal’s Zon Multimedia has meanwhile fully embraced the wireless route, competing with Portugal Telecom, which it used to be part of.
According to Luis Miguel Gonçalves Lopez, Zon Multimedia’s marketing manager, its strategy includes the creation of 100,000 Wi Fi hot spots around Portugal providing free internet access.
