CABLE CONGRESS 2009 – BERLIN. Europe’s cable industry gained 10 million new subscribers in 2008, growing by a top line margin of 7%, according to Manuel Kohnstamm, the president of Cable Europe. Speaking at the official opening of Cable Congress 2009 in the German capital, he added that Central Europe and Germany had been responsible for much of this growth.
The transition from analogue to digital cable also made good headway in 2008, with 29% of cable homes receiving digital services at the end of the year.
Kohnstamm nevertheless cautioned for the need to be careful and not assuming such growth will be repeated this year in the light of the current economic crisis.
