New opportunities for IPTV operators have been opened up by Ericsson after the company demonstrated a new VDSL2-based technology achieving data transfer rates greater than 0.5Gbps.
The technology is suitable for fibre extensions, combining fibre and last-mile copper for backhauling. It opens up new possibilities for the delivery of HDTV and video-on-demand over IPTV networks.
The method known as crosstalk cancellation or vectorised VDSL2 improves performance by reducing the noise coming from other copper pairs in the same bundle. This increases both capacity and reach, meaning that more customers would be served.
