The German pay-TV operator Premiere is to launch an open window called Premiere Vitrine and has applied to the Bavarian media authority for a licence.
The new channel would be used as a marketing tool to attract new subscribers to the service. In the past few years, Premiere has been struggling to make premium pay-TV a success in a country with an abundance of FTA channels.
Premiere Vitrine could be a stand-alone channel, but it could also be an open window on one of the main Premiere channels. Canal+ in France has been using a similar open window as promotion for its premium services.
Just recently, Premiere announced the closure of its FTA channel Giga TV (see Broadband TV News passim).
