A total of 28.5 million Germans viewed 3 billion online videos last December, according to research published by ComScore. The figure was 10% up on the previous year.
YouTube is by far the best watched online video site and accounted for 98% of all videos viewed on the combined Google Sites. Viewership of YouTube grew 48% year-on-year to further solidify its position as the leading online video viewing property in Germany, attracting 19.4 million viewers in December 2008.
Universal Music Group ranked second with 8.6 million viewers (up 19%), followed by two German websites from the two major commercial broadcasters, ProSiebenSat1 Sites and RTL Group Sites, which attracted 6.5 and 4.1 million viewers respectively.
Megavideo.com had the fastest rate of growth among the top ten video properties, growing 1,183% to 2.1 million viewers in December.
Germany’s 28.5 million online video viewers watched a total of 3.4 billion videos in December 2008, an average of 118.8 videos per viewer, or approximately four videos per day.
Google Sites led the pack with 51% of all videos viewed, followed by ProSiebenSat1 Sites (1.9%) Universal Music Group (1.7%), and RTL Group (1.0%).
