Ericsson is to launch a new Connected Home Gateway software designed to act as a single entry point for IPTV and multimedia telephony services into the home.
The idea, which can be seen at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (February 16 – 19), is to provide a secure connection between the customer’s home and the telecommunications network.
Customers will then be able to use their mobile devices to communicate directly with the computer, TV or media player. It makes it possible for customers to access their media libraries on the move and to share photos and videos with family and friends.
“The Connected Home Gateway brings simplicity and gives users true control of their everyday communication and media services,” says Jan Wäreby, SVP and head of Ericsson’s Multimedia business, says: “It meets a market need, allowing operators to expand their customer base and generate revenue.”
The Gateway is compliant with telecom and consumer electronic standards, such as IMS, Open IPTV Forum and the Digital Living Network Alliance.
