Discovery Channel is to introduce its new on-air logo to the European market. The design was first seen in the United States in April 2008 and will make its first appearance on UK screens February 15 before rolling out across all the channel’s international regions. Viewers in continental Europe will get their first glimpse of the ident in March as the channel commemorates its 21st year in the international marketplace.
“Discovery Channel is the most widely distributed television brand in the world, and we have harnessed its broad international reach and appeal to launch new brands and businesses over the past twenty years,” said Greg Ricca, President and CEO, Discovery Networks International. “The revitalised logo builds on the equity of Discovery’s signature globe while continuing to reflect the universal relevance of the brand and its programming.”
The logo links the familiar globe with the ‘D’ of Discovery. Boston-based Viewpoint Creative and LA-based Royale developed the new branding.
