Eurosport serves audience ace

February 10, 2009 10.18 Europe/London By Julian Clover

eurosport_20Eurosport’s multimedia strategy has delivered the group record audience figures during January and early February.

Best ever ratings on the French and UK websites of 600,000 and 700,000 visitors respectively contributed to a total of 2.1 million visitors on Sunday February 1. The milestone was achieved in part through Eurosport’s online coverage of Australian Open Tennis, the Handball World Championships and local football leagues.

On air, Eurosport’s linear coverage of the Australian Open in Melbourne brought audiences of 52 million viewers with 17.3 million tuning in during the final alone.

“These landmark figures prove that Eurosport is setting the standard not only on its TV channels but in its online activities. Both record audiences are a clear sign that our pan-European multi-platform strategy is reaping great rewards and we are perfectly placed to roll out more broadcast and digital initiatives in 2009,” explains Laurent-Eric Le Lay, Eurosport Chairman & CEO.

Eurosport is this year commemorating 20 years since the channel’s launch. It now offers five TV channels. Reaching 240 million viewers in 59 countries and 10 websites.
