Solaris Mobile, the planned hybrid satellite-terrestrial mobile network is to stage a demonstration of its technology at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week (February 16 – 19).
With a month still to go before the launch of its satellite payload on board Eutelsat W2A, Solaris will rely on terrestrial transmissions from Abertis Telecom to deliver its S-band signals to its next generation handsets and multimedia players.
In-car ‘infotainment’ services will be demonstrated to a fleet of five Mercedes E Class Series cars that will be provided by partner Eurocar. Delegates will be driven around Barcelona during which time they will be able to enjoy coverage from channels including Euronews and Eurosport. The cars will use Quantum receivers and Calearo antennas while general handsets and portable multimedia players will be provided by Sagem Wireless and Archos.
