United Telecommunication Services (UTS), the parent company of TDS, has completed the upgrade of its wireless cable services (MMDS) on the islands of Curaçao and Bonaire. The Dutch systems integrator Divitel delivered the next generation platform that has been built for the operational situation.
During the renovation, the system was migrated to a fully IP based platform, with minimal disruption for customers. TDS replaced old set-top boxes for new ones.
One of the advantages of the new MMDS platform is an enormous increase in bandwidth, without needing additional frequency licences or expansion of the transmission farm.
Following the migration to a fully IPTV platform, UTS is able to offer cross media services such as mobile TV, IPTV, Fibre to the Home (FttH) and many more HDTV channels.
UTS and TDS are innovating at a fast pace. Roderich Pietersz, MD at TDS, said in a statement: “I’ve seen the migration from analogue to digital up close. And now the migration to a fully IP based cross media platform is happening. What progress! I am sure that with this platform TDS is ready for the future!”
