It may now have the fastest broadband in the UK, but Virgin Media’s advertising is not fast enough for the Advertising Standards Authority. Four complaints against a press campaign claiming BT’s fibre-optic network was 20 years away have been upheld.
Both Sky and a member of the public complained about claims that the existing copper network was struggling to cope with modern demands.
The ASA said that while applications such as the iPlayer and YouTube had increased the demands on systems, Virgin had exaggerated the claims.
Last October the ASA reprimanded Virgin over claims that its 20 Mbps was at that time the fastest in the country. https://www.broadbandtvnews.com/?p=9526
