Russia’s already dynamic cable industry can look forward to a bright future.
Reporting on a meeting of the national cable association (AKTR), Cableman says that there are currently over 1,500 operators in the country, 70% of which are working towards the provision of double or triple play services.
Furthermore, some 36 million households are either already passed by or receiving cable, and by 2015 25 million of the country’s 45 million households are likely to be connected. This will be compared to 15 million receiving DTH and 5 million DTT services.
The AKTR predicts that the current economic crisis will slow down growth in the broadband and pay-TV sectors to between 20-35%.
However, once it is over the cable industry as a whole should again experience strong growth and a rise in investment.
