The transition to digital broadcasting in Slovakia has taken an unexpected twist.
Medialne reports that the country’s government has approved a controversial proposal for a new strategy for the transition, prepared by the Ministry of Transport, Posts and Telecommunications.
Although it will now be sent to the Telecom Office (TU SR), the latter has been without a president since Branislav Macaj was relieved of his duties late last year.
There are three candidates for the post, though no indication yet as to when an appointment will be made.
A DTT tender opened by the TU SR last August was suspended two months later following protests from Telecom Office, a transmission company that has been undertaking trials in the city of Kosice. It was then cancelled in December.
