Poland’s transition to digital broadcasting is about to receive a welcome boost.
Quoted in Wirtualne Media, Witold Kolodziejski, the head of the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT), said that the long-awaited tender for the first DTT multiplex is likely to be announced this week.
The multiplex will essentially be reserved for existing analogue broadcasters, with the operator likely to be a consortium of the broadcasters plus the transmission company TP EmiTel.
Applications will be invited for a period of 45 days, with the whole licensing process expected to take three months.
Failure of the KRRiT to reach an agreement with the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) over the DTT licensing procedure forced the latter to pull out of overseeing the process last November.
A tender for the second multiplex will be held shortly after the first one is completed.
