CES 2009 – LAS VEGAS. Set-top box manufacturer Roku said it will add the Amazon video-on-demand service to its Roku Player, the device that brings the Netflix online video service to a TV set.
Amazon’s video service will become the first non-Netflix “channel” to be available on the Roku box. The service offers more than 40,000 movies and TV shows as compared to the 12,000 titles available from Netflix. The set-top was released in May last year and retals for just under 100 dollars (see Broadband TV news passim).
The new addition grows the number of platforms on which Amazon Video On Demand is available, which include TiVo and the Sony Bravia Internet Link Tv sets, as well as PCs and Macs.
