The European Commission has confirmed Solaris Mobile as an ‘admissible candidate’ in the two-stage application process for the provision of mobile satellite services over Europe, the Dublin-based company has announced.
Solaris is one of four candidates in the licensing procedure that is being conducted under a single European selection procedure, rather than through the 27 national administrations. The three other candidates are Inmarsat, TerreStar Europe and ICO Global.
Jointly owned by Eutelsat and SES Astra, Solaris claims it is the only operator capable of meeting Commission expectations of a 2009 start for cross border mobile TV services.
