Italian Communications Undersecretary, Paolo Romani, has announced that the frequencies vacated during the analogue switch off will be auctioned off.
In an interview with Italian daily Corriere delle Comunicazioni, Romani said that an auction will be organised both for the frequencies vacated in Sardinia as well as for those that will emerge as DTT is rolled out across the country.
Responding to concerns voiced by the EU regarding congestion of the frequency spectrum, Romani underlined investments made by the existing operators must be taken into account, although newcomers will have, in any case, 40% of the digital multiplexes.
