The Dutch language Belgian commercial broadcaster VMMa is in talks to take a major interest in the business news channel Kanaal Z/Canal Z, a spokesperson for the company confirmed. At the moment, the Roularta Media Group is the sole owner of what are effectively two news channels, one operating in Dutch and the other in French.
The Vlaamse Media Maatschappij (VMMa) is the largest Dutch langiuage commercial broadcaster in the country and also owns and operates the hugely successful Q Music radio station, as well as the TV channels VTM, Kanaal 2 and JimTV.
Kanaal Z has an audience of around 350,000 viewers a day. One of the possibilities would be to integrate the business news programming into the schedule of Kanaal 2, which is due for a rebranding and reformatting early next year.
The VMMa has no French language broadcasting activities in Belgium.
