The Slovak DTT tender has apparently been cancelled, according to Digimedia and a local news agency report.
The tender for two multiplexes, organised by the Slovak Telecom Office (TU SR), was opened on August 20 but suspended two months later following protests from Telecom Corp, a company that has been undertaking DTT trials in the eastern city of Kosice.
The TU SR subsequently appealed against the decision. Four parties – Austria’s ORS, the Canadian group Valtech Communications and Slovak firms Towercom and Telecom Corp – are known to be interested in securing an operator’s licence.
The cancellation of the tender would be a major blow to Slovakia, which plans to complete the transition to digital broadcasting at the end of 2012.
