The Spanish public broadcaster TVE has signed an agreement with Abertis Telecom to make the signal of its digital terrestrial channels available to every home via the Hispasat satellite. The channels will be free-to-view.
The agreement means the 1.5% of the population, who will never be able to receive signals from terrestrial television, have access to all the TVE channels. The pubic channels are already available on the satellite as Hispasat is used to feed the terrestrial transmitter network by Albertis.
A change in the conditional access system will be necessary in order to allow private reception of the channels. The idea is to also include all regional broadcasters in the scheme.
