Hungary’s new DTT service MinDig TV has finally made its debut, though with question marks still hanging over the channels it will carry.
According to its operator, the national transmission company Antenna Hungária, the FTA service is initially being distributed from transmitters in Budapest, Kabhegy and Szentes, allowing it to reach around 60% of Hungarian TV households.
Investment in it is likely to reach around HUF25 billion (€95.6 million) in the next 4-5 years.
Antenna Hungária adds that although it has only signed a contract with the public broadcaster Duna Television, talks with the other one (MTV) and commercial channels are still ongoing.
In its view, decision- making is being made complicated in the absence of clear rules prior to the enactment of a new media law.
