BSkyB has signaled its intention to maintain its 17.9% holding in commercial broadcaster ITV plc. It has requested permission from the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) to take the case to the Court of Appeal after CAT dismissed an earlier legal challenge.
In September the Competition Appeal Tribunal ordered BSkyB to reduce its stake to 7.5%. Last month a Competition Appeal Tribunal rejected an appeal brought by Virgin Media that would have forced BSkyB to sell the remainder of its stake.
Should CAT deny the BSkyB request then the platform can take its appeal directly to the Court of Appeal and ultimately the House of Lords.
