MultiChoice says its Compact Bouquet is behind its “phenomenal growth” over the past three years.
Subscriber numbers for the South African-based DStv now stand at 1.5 million with DStv Compact representing a quarter of the total.
“DStv, once perceived as a luxury item, is more accessible and affordable through DStv Compact,” said Multichoice marketing and sales director Graham Pfuhl. “We are really proud of DStv Compact and judging by it’s acceptance in the market, we hope to double its subscriber base in the next few years”.
DStv Compact was launched in February 2005 as a low-cost defensive measure against an emerging number of smaller players, such as GTV, the original 13-channel package having grown to a 35-channel bouquet. The full premium DStv package has more than 80 channels.
