Thomson has launched a new version of its SmartVision video-on-demand server. The sixth version of the product enables a network personal video recorder (nPVR) for cable and IPTV networks. This allows subscribers to remotely record programmes on the server.
SmartVision VoD 6.0 introduces a family of streaming accelerators that double the capacity of the previous generation of VOD servers. Total streaming capacity of 16 Gbit/s makes it possible to record more than 200 channels that can be timeshifted for a large number of subscribers.
Thomson says its SmartVision VOD servers guarantee that video streams have zero jitter. Lost packets are retransmitted, even in the case of burst packet loss in the network.
