The Spanish incumbent telco Telefonica has launched the Chinese, Spanish language international channel CCTV-E on its Imagenio IPTV platform. The launch ceremony was held last Friday at the headquarters of Telefonica in Madrid.
The ceremony was attended by a Chinese delegation led by Wang Taihua, the director general of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television of China. According to the agreement between China Central Television and Telefonica, CCTV-E will be carried on the Imagenio IPTV service.
CCTV-E’s round-the-clock broadcasts focus mainly on news, but also contain features, cultural programs and TV series. Targeting the Hispanic world, the service is meant to promote exchanges between China and Spanish-speaking countries. So far, it has been made available to a great number of countries in Central and South America.
Wang Taihua said he believes that with Telefonica’s advanced technical support and management, as well as strong advertising and service, more people will be able to access CCTV’s programmes. He added that this will help the audience learn more about Chinese history and culture.
