Viasat’s Nordic pay-TV business remained static in the third quarter to September 30, 2008 as softness in the DTH satellite market saw premium subscriber levels fall to 679,000 from 688,000 at the end of the second quarter. IPTV connections continue to rise and the 10,000 increase took total premium subs in the region to 740,000.
Subscribers with the ViasatPlus PVR increased by 95,000 at the end of the second quarter to 103,000 at the end of the third. Multiroom subscriptions also grew from 151,000 to 159,000.
Viasat’s Baltic DTH satellite business meanwhile added 62,000 premium subscribers year-on-year and 14,000 in the third quarter. As of September 30, 2008 there were 193,000 Baltic premium subscribers, along with 33,208,000 mini-pay subscriptions in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) as a whole.
The Nordic pay-TV business reported an operating income of SEK170 million (€17.09 million) compared to SEK153 million in 2007, while pay-TV in the emerging markets pulled in SEK17 million (2007: SEK17 million).
