Revenues from access products within Thomson’s Systems Division declined in the third quarter as US retail spending took its toll on telco activity.
Sales of satellite set-top boxes declined to 2.5 million units compared to 2.7 million in Q3 2007. Conversely, Thomson shipped 1.4 million set-top boxes and modems, compared to 1 million 12 months earlier. During the quarter the division began shipments of its digital cable convertor product to US operator Comcast. 2.5m access products were shipped, a fall of 100,000.
Revenues within the Systems Division fell to €541 million in the third quarter from €650m in 2007. The division also includes the digital film transfer business, which is currently being disposed of.
Newly appointed CEO Frederic Rose has begun am intensive review of the group’s busiensses, warning that he will sell off those divisions that have failed to make satisfactory profits.
