The debate about the future of the Polish public broadcaster TVP and country’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has taken yet another twist.
According to Wirtualne Media, a group of industry associations, among them ones representing writers and audiovisual producers, has put forward alternative proposals for amendments to the Media Law.
These include the replacement of receiver licence fees with a monthly fee of PLN8 (€2.32) per person taken from national insurance contributions.
The KRRiT would meanwhile be expanded to nine members, some of who would be autonomous (non-political).
The proposals come at a time of growing tensions between TVP and the government, which it accuses of trying to destroy public service broadcasting in Poland.
