Ireland’s public broadcaster RTE is to launch an online catch-up TV service early next year.
RTE director-general Cathal Goan told a conference organised by the regulator ComReg that the platform had already been built and would launch in January, providing sufficient resources were available.
The RTE website already has a number of programmes that are available for streaming, subject to rights restrictions, in a seven-day catch-up window.
A version of the new catch-up TV service would also be made available internationally, alongside the new international TV channel, also earmarked for a 2009 launch.
