Belgian cable operator Telenet has completed its purchase of the TV interests of the municipal cable operators in Flanders and their joint venture Interkabel.
Approval for the deal, estimated at between €340 and 500 million, was given by the General Assemblies of the Flemish Public Cable Companies held over the last two days (September 29 and 30).
The purchase was subject to a complaint from Belgacom, which argued the authorities should have conducted an open tender. The deal adds close to 800,000 TV customers bringing Telenet’s total to about 2.5 million homes served.
Telenet Digital TV will launch in the Interkabel area on October 15.
