Latens has introduced a new version of its ECO PC client that makes it possible to use consumer PCs as virtual set-top boxes. Release 4.0, which was demonstrated at the recent IBC 2008 expo in Amsterdam, includes full set-top functionality including Electronic Programme Guide, channel numbers, VOD, interactive TV portal applications and DVR features.
“Consumers want to enjoy their favourite content, including subscription TV, home movies, user-generated content, music and photos, on all their screens at home. We are making this possible by creating a truly secure, open home networking environment,” said Latens CEO Jeremy Thorp. “Latens ECOsystem is approved by the content community, it reduces integration costs and it now provides a way for operators to quickly introduce home networking services to their customer base.
In addition to Windows the ECO PC Client also runs on Vista and Mac OS X 10.4/10.5.
The architecture has been designed to conform to the interoperability work carried out by the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance).
