IBC 2008 – AMSTERDAM. Kabel Deutschland is installing a suite of digital video solutions from Harmonic for its new IP-enabled headend in Frankfurt.
KDG has chosen DiviCom Electra 5000 standard definition (SD) encoders, the ProStream 1000 stream processing platform and Mentor re-encoding technology, DiviTrackIP statistical multiplexers and NMX Digital Service Manager as key components in the headend.
In a separate announcement, Portugal Telecom has chosen a similar package for its DTH platform MEO, part of a wider IPTV offering. MEO is one of the first platforms to run an MPEG-4 operation. The new headend includes Harmonic’s DiviCom Electra 7000 HD H.264 encoders, Electra 5400 SD encoders, and the ProStream 1000 stream processing platform and DiviTrackIP distributed statistical multiplexing, DVB scrambling and Forward Error Correction capability. The video service is managed by Harmonic’s NMX Digital Service Manager.
