IBC 2008 – AMSTERDAM. Kudelski Group has announced a new success in its fight against smart card piracy. Heinrich Zehnder GmbH, one of Germany’s leading free-to-air receiver importers, has been prohibited from importing devices that contain a mechanism capable of receiving pay-TV programmes without a subscription.
Holger Ippach, Nagravision’s senior VP sales, northern and central Europe, told Broadband TV News the company had previously remained silent over its anti-piracy activities, but was pursuing the pirates in a number of places. “We will continue to act against anyone who fights against the system,” he said.
Failure to comply with the order will result in a fine of up to €250,000 or a prison sentence of up to six months for the company’s MD.
