Tandberg Television has been awarded a Technology & Engineering Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in recognition of its development and deployment of MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) systems for HDTV. The award will be presented to Tandberg at a ceremony during next January’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
Tandberg Television president Eric Cooney said he was proud at the recognition the company had received. “We made a bold, early investment in HD MPEG-4 AVC, giving us a significant market lead, and we have built on that early momentum. Today, the high quality compression performance of our MPEG-4 AVC HD solution continues to lead the market and is enabling a number of operators to introduce and expand outstanding HD viewing experiences,” he said.
The company launched the world’s first MPEG-4 encoder at IBC in September 2004. It subsequently launched the first complete MPEG-4 AVC HD broadcasting system at NAB in April 2005.
