Doubts have emerged as to the future DTT (TDT) marketplace in Spain and its ability to support up to 40 channels.
According to local reports, they have been voiced by delegates attending a conference entitled the Forum 50 Trends in Television, taking place in Santander.
Both Silvio Gonzáles, the CEO of Antena 3, and Jose Miguel Contreras, his counterpart at La Sexta, were of the view that there will be insufficient viewers and ad revenue to sustain the 40 FTA services that will be available following ASO in 2010.
Spain already has one of the largest DTT markets in Europe, with 8 million receivers having been sold at the end of 2007.
Its Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade is currently preparing a new audiovisual law.
