Dutch IPTV provider Tele2 today announced that it has signed contracts with Warner Bros and Disney-ABC-ESPN Television for their VOD service. The agreement with Warner Bros also includes a day & date contract for selected recent titles.
Jaap Bruijnen, MD of Warner Home Video Benelux, said in a prepared statement: “Digital distribution of movies is very important in the strategy of Warner Bros and we are very pleased that Tele2 customers are now able to view our movies on television simultaneously with DVD release.”
Maria Kyriacou, senior VP, New Media Distribution, Disney-ABC-ESPN Television, added: “We are
committed to working with leading international new media platforms to provide consumers with access to our high-quality content, whenever and however they want it. So we are delighted to be working with Tele2 to offer Dutch viewers flexible and easy access to our feature films.”
“This is incredibly good news for movie fans,” according to Hans Broekhuis, director TV Marketing and Content of Tele2. “No more penalties for late returning of DVDs and never going back empty handed because somebody else rented the movie. We already had a wide range of movies and live Dutch premier league football, but our customers are now in the luxurious position that they are able to rent the latest blockbusters from their couch.”
