IFA 2008 – BERLIN. Digital cable has overtaken DTT in Germany, according to the cable organisation ANGA. At the moment, 4.1 million households now take digital cable, equivalent to 23.6% of all digital households in the country. Digital take-up has grown by 900,000 homes since earlier this year, and 21% of all cable homes now take digital.
This is one of the conclusions of the Digitalisation Report, which was presented yesterday at the IFA Fair in Berlin. According to ANGA, cable is the most popular infrastructure to receive analogue and digital television. All told, 19.6 million households subscribe to cable, representing a 52.5% penetration.
Satellite DTH comes second with 15.7 million households, or a penetration of 42% (analogue and digital combined). In terms if digital reception, DTT comes behind cable with 3.9 million homes. Digital DTH is still the most popular of all digital platforms.
