PrimaCom added 4,244 new digital subscribers in the 12 months to June 2008 as the German regional cablenet increased its digital TV revenues by €0.2 million to €0.5 million. As of June 30, 2008 there were 16,005 digital subscribers on the network.
However, faced with intense competition from satellite and particularly DTT ARPU from digital households decreased from €8.88 to €6.82. Analogue ARPU also fell, as did internet and telephony, the result of a reduction in basic cable fees from €9.40 to €9.33 per customer. In the long term PrimaCom is looking to enhanced digital services to increase revenues.
The structure of German cable television also means PrimaCom, and other operators, are also able to make revenues from the sale of the cable signal to other operators including the dominant Kabel Deutschland.
Overall first half operating profit decreased by €0.9 million to €4.1 million.
