Cablecom has announced plans to launch DOCSIS 3.0 services in the first half of 2009, bringing customers speeds of up to 100 Mbps. The cablenet is also taking advantage of the recent 862MHz upgrade to introduce new interactive services including video on demand and catch-up TV.
The network is being upgraded throughout the country with customers in Zurich the first to enjoy the improved speeds and advanced services. Talks are currently underway with Swiss broadcasters to provide content for the VOD service. Around 250 film titles are also anticipated.
The services will be delivered through a new range of set-top boxes that will become available in Q1 2009. The ‘energy saving’ devices will use less than 1 watt when placed in standby mode. The boxes will also automatically switch to standby after a period of inactivity.
Cablecom’s current range of digital receivers are manufactured by Thomson, which has introduced energy saving features for its DTH client BSkyB.
